Darren & Rob
Yesterday Darren (the writer) drove down from L.A. so that we could have an in-person meeting with the team at New American Standard (NAS). We actually met Josh (the producer) through Jenn and things went from there. Jenn was present as well and arrived separately.
So, here’s what went down. Darren and I made a horrible attempt at video documenting our initial thoughts on the drive over. You guys may see some of this in the documentary footage, but I’m sort of hoping you don’t. Anyway, it took a few minutes after the meeting got underway for us to remembered to fire up the camera again (a room full of equipment and nothing was rolling, heh). So we got the majority of our conversation and, whatever you see of that will hopefully give you an idea of just how “starting from nothing” we are.
We gave them a chance to read the draft of the pilot script and talked about the concept and characters. This is THE most important part of the show because no matter how good the acting or editing is, if you’re not interested in the story and not intrigued by the characters, then you won’t hang around. So, we successfully conveyed the “show within a show” concept and our intended story arch. I think they liked it. I’d say we hooked them with the relevancy of the Social Media topic. Everyone could relate.

Kevin & Jenn
It was cool to actually have the entire team present at the meeting, one of the benefits of working with a smaller company. They all got to understand the look, the direction, camera and scene requirements, the perspective of the characters. It was great. It became clear that Josh had suggestions and asked for permission to submit those with their budget proposal. You’ll find that Darren and I are trying to create something great here. So although we want to be wary of the doors we leave open, we welcome positive collaboration. Heck we’ve even started a website for it. :)
One feeling I am hoping to get over is a somewhat distant feeling with the team as a whole, but mainly Jenn. I think it comes from the fact that we are first of all “Twitter friends” meaning that is how we met and has facilitated this venture. But people connect on a personal level in different times and in different ways. I tend to jump right in with people I like because I am very trusting and a good judge of character. But, it may be a bit early for that. I’d like for the group to be close, but I do push. So we’ll see.
