Fresh Boutique

Fresh Boutique

The crew decided to send Alexis out with the EP’s wife, Stephanie, to pick out a couple of nice pieces for her to wear in the pilot.  We decide to check out Erik Kramer’s boutique on Garnet Ave. in Pacific Beach called Fresh.

Erik’s been running various apparel stores in the area for over 15 years and has a talent for keeping things hip and affordable.  We found a couple of things that seemed right for the character, but the real success was really learning more about Alexis and just how much she really is Jenn2.0.

We still need to go through wardrobe with the other cast members.  It’s an often overlooked aspect of creating a show.  But it’s something that, if done wrong, will ruin a scene if not your whole episode.

We wanted to focus on our main character first so we asked Alexis to come out to the studio and bring a selection of her clothes that matched the character descriptions we had given and that were a fit for the scenes we are shooting in the pilot.

Alexis is great, always has a lot of fun, and really personafies our character “Jenn” in a lot of ways.  The inset picture is a sample of where we started out.  But it was clear we had not found what we were looking for and even more clear that communicating the small details that define a look is very difficult.  That’s when we said let’s go shopping and get on the same page.  We didn’t actually buy much because once the girls started discussing the scenes and the character more freely, it became easier for Alexis to see herself as the character and assert her real world wardrobe choices into being “Jenn.”  She knows who Jenn is and she knows what she would wear to say - conduct an interview.  (So let’s just say, as it turns out she didn’t need as much direction from us behind-the-camera goons as she thought.)  We hope you’ll like what we’ve come up with.
